About Us



Dennis's experience comes with hard work, determination, and like a lot of us, being in the right place at the right time. In 1980 Dennis was recruited by the internationally famous designer, and Father of the California Look, Michael Taylor. Michael personnally brought Dennis on-board to help assemble some of the world's greatest houses.  As Vice-President of Michael Taylor Designs, Dennis was responsible for overseeing Michael’s vast inventory of furniture pieces, which he selected and placed internationally.


The off-shoot of this experience, and years on the mainland, Dennis Buchner Design (DBD) Hawaii was formed. DBD is a full service, luxury interior design firm, based in Kamuela, Hawaii.  With over 25 years of high-end interior design experience around the world, Dennis is on the islands now with a passion for Contemporary Hawaiiana Design. 
Over the past year, Dennis has worked on several special projects with famed historian and decorator, Mary Philpotts of Honolulu.  Dennis has also spent several months consulting with Martin and MacArthur, producers of Koa furniture and accessories, and also developing an on-line furniture program for Henderson Design at The Shops at Mauna Lani. 
Dennis believes that design is a balance of color, form, scale, and texture.  His innate ability to provide his clients a comfortable environment is the basis for his interior design process. Dennis feels that it is important to involve all the principals of a project, each working together to integrate and execute the clients’ dreams.
Dennis provides personal attention to every detail from conception to completion on every project.
